Responses to strong opening bids of 2 , 2, 2 ♠

  • Pass with less than 5 total points (DHP)

  • If there is a fit
    • With 5-7 DHP, raise to 4
    • With 8-9 DHP, raise to game
    • With more than 9 DHP, raise to 3 (forcing, shows interest in slam)

  • Otherwise
    • With 5-10 HCP, bid a suit of each least 4 cards at the 2 level, or bid 2NT
    • With more than 10 HCP, bid a 5-card suit or 3NT

If you choose to employ weak twos in the majors, but a strong 2 , then the 2 opening bid is Ace-asking. Responses thereto are as follows:

  • 2 : No Ace, less than 8 HCP
  • 2 ♠ : One Ace
  • 2NT : No Ace, 8 plus HCP or 2 Kings
  • 3 of a suit : No Ace, but a 6-card suit containing KQ or KJT
  • 3NT : 2 Aces
  • 4NT : 3 Aces (rare)
