Intervening bids

Cue bid with more than 20 points if the option Michael's Cue Bid is not activated, otherwise double

Overcall 1NT with a hand whose shape would qualify for this opening, containing 16 - 18 HCP and a stopper in the suit overcalled. Further bidding will be similar to that following a no-trump opening, including the use of Stayman, Jacoby transfers and Texas Minor

Jump overcalls, at the 3- or 4-level on the first round, have the same meanings as pre-empts

A non-jump overcall at the 2-level promises at least a 5-card suit and 12 - 17 points; a jump overcall shows at least a 6-card suit and less than 10 HCP

An overcall at the 1-level promises at least a 5-card suit and 10 - 17 points

The take-out double is made only on the first round of bidding. If made at the 1-level, it requires a minimum of 13 points, or at least 16 points at a higher level. All other doubles, with the exception of the Sputnik double are for penalties

After 2 passes, the point count requirements for the 1NT overcall and the take-out double can be reduced by 3 points

The double of a strong opening 2 ♣, 2 , or 2NT shows a hand with two 5-card majors

Overcalls of 2NT, Michael's Cue Bid, and 2 ♣ Landy are optional
