Responses to strong opening bids of 2 ♦, 2
♥, 2 ♠
- Pass with less than 5 total points (DHP)
- If there is a fit
- With 5-7 DHP, raise to 4
- With 8-9 DHP, raise to game
- With more than 9 DHP, raise to 3 (forcing, shows
interest in slam)
- Otherwise
- With 5-10 HCP, bid a suit of each least 4 cards at
the 2 level, or bid 2NT
- With more than 10 HCP, bid a 5-card suit or 3NT
If you choose to employ weak twos in the majors, but a
strong 2 ♦, then the 2 ♦ opening bid is Ace-asking.
Responses thereto are as follows:
- 2 ♥ :
No Ace, less than 8 HCP
- 2
♠ : One Ace
- 2NT : No Ace, 8 plus HCP or 2 Kings
- 3 of a suit
: No Ace, but a 6-card suit containing KQ or KJT
- 3NT : 2 Aces
- 4NT : 3 Aces (rare)
